In naive art, the influence of the comic strip was gradually felt over the course of the 20th century. Today, it can be seen in the work of many artists, many of them self-taught. The work of Sherbrooke artist François Vallée is a good example, raising the question: When does a production cease to be naive? Despite its themes and many other typically naive characteristics, does François Vallée's art really remain naive? The question is asked.
The permanent exhibition allows the museum to showcase different facets of naïve art through the jewels of its collection. Generally renewed every two years or less, it includes around thirty works, most often grouped by geographical origin or naive criteria. An important place is given to Quebec artists, among other works from the Americas, Europe or Asia, as well as to recent acquisitions.
